Aeropuerto Internacional de la Ciudad de México reported potential flight disruptions.

Travelers planning to fly out of the Aeropuerto Internacional de la Ciudad de México (AICM) on Thursday are advised to take precautions due to expected rain and bad weather in the capital. The AICM reported that weather conditions in the area and the forecast for the next few hours could affect some flights, and passengers are advised to stay in contact with their airline for any changes to their itineraries.

The Secretaría de Gestión Integral de Riesgos y Protección Civil (SGIRPC) activated the Alerta Roja for heavy rain and possible hail in the alcaldías of Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, and Venustiano Carranza, which are close to the Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez. The Alerta Naranja was also updated for the demarcations of Cuauhtémoc, Milpa Alta, and Tlalpan due to the forecast of heavy rain, which could cause flooding.

In addition, the Alerta Amarilla was activated for several alcaldías, including Álvaro Obregón, Azcapotzalco, Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Cuajimalpa, Gustavo A. Madero, Magdalena Contreras, Miguel Hidalgo, Tláhuac, and Xochimilco. These areas are expected to experience rain accompanied by electrical activity, hail, and strong winds.

The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) reported that various weather systems will maintain rain in several regions of the country on Friday, including the hurricane ‘Rachel’, which has strengthened to category 3, and the first cold front of the season. The SMN forecasts intense precipitation in areas of Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, and Guerrero, as well as very strong rain in other areas of the west and south of the country.

The cold front is moving over the northern part of the country, and its interaction with other atmospheric systems is favoring strong to intense rain and strong winds in states such as Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Durango, and Zacatecas. The forecast also includes precipitation in regions of the center, east, south, and southeast of Mexico, including the Valle de México.
