Uber launches live video feature for teen rides in Mexico

Uber launched a national live video feature for its Uber Teens service in Mexico this week, allowing parents and guardians to watch rides in real time. The new tool joins existing safety features inside the Family Profile, which already tracks location and shows driver details.

Real-Time Visibility for Parents

The live stream comes directly from the driver’s phone and is visible only to the specific guardian linked to the teen’s account. Once the trip ends, access to the video is blocked and the file is deleted to protect privacy. According to the company, the video can be kept as a backup in case of an incident or report.

Uber has emphasized that this expansion to all Mexican cities responds to families wanting to grant teens independence without losing sight of their safety. The feature integrates seamlessly into the existing Family Profile system.

Parents receive a notification when a trip begins and can open the video feed to see inside the vehicle. This visual layer adds to the information they already receive, such as the driver’s name, vehicle model, license plate, and the requested destination.

Verification and Monitoring

Teen trips require drivers who meet strict standards. These professionals must pass document validation, routine background checks, and facial recognition tests. The platform prioritizes drivers with high ratings and significant experience using the app.

Before the ride starts, the teen receives a unique code to give to the driver. The driver must enter this PIN in their app before the trip can begin. This step prevents the teen from entering the wrong vehicle and ensures the correct passenger is picked up.

Uber also uses RideCheck technology, a GPS-based system that monitors for unusual activity. The system flags deviations from the route, unexpected stops, or trips that end early. If an alert is triggered, the user and the guardian receive a notification immediately. This data connects to safety tools like the option to call emergency services.

To create an account, a parent opens the Family Profile in the main app and invites the teen. The teen receives a link to download the app and complete registration.
